Counterterrorism, B.S.

The Bachelor of Science in Counterterrorism will prepare students to use leading counterterrorism methodologies, concepts, and analytic tools to examine significant issues in terrorism and counterterrorism studies. As an interdisciplinary program, students also gain familiarity with computer science, cyber security, critical infrastructure protection, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences. Such a comprehensive academic program will prepare them to work in national security, whether in government or the private security.
Specifically, students will learn to analyze the origins and evolution of terrorism, terrorist attack patterns, methods of prevention to actively counter radicalization and recruitment, as well as to develop, detect and apply early warnings to predict and forecast future terrorist trends. Effective counter-terrorism campaign measures are examined.
Student Outcomes
Upon graduation, graduates will be able to
- Critically analyze problems in a variety of disciplines and synthesize relevant information to support the attainment of desired outcomes in counterterrorism.
- Identify, formulate, and solve complex counterterrorism problems by selecting and applying appropriate tools and techniques.
- Identify weaknesses in modern terrorism processes, communications, methods, planning, finances, and decision-making in order to develop optimum solutions.
- Conceptualize, apply and integrate effective strategies in the counterterrorism decision-making process.
- Evaluate executive decisions in the context of the modern terrorism threat environment to determine the potential impact on resources and desired outcomes.
- Evaluate the legal, social, economic, environmental, and global ramifications of decisions within counterterrorism.
