Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Technology, B.S.

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Undergraduate Degree Programs

The Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering teaches students modeling methods, systems engineering and practical applications of mechatronics and robotics. The program produces engineers with the skills to create economic, reliable and simplified systems. Students gain a foundation in circuit design and analysis, systems and control engineering, and develop an understanding of complex mechatronic and robotics systems. Students complete courses in robotics systems engineering and analysis, digital electronics, control theory, power systems engineering, and automation systems design, which enable them to build and design integrated systems. All students will complete a capstone in which they propose, design, build, test and deliver a computer-based system.

Program Educational Objectives

The program aims to prepare graduates to:

  • successfully practice as professionals in mechatronics and robotics technology, solving broadly-defined engineering problems and contributing to technological advancements.
  • engage in lifelong learning and professional development to stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
  • demonstrate effective leadership and teamwork skills, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve organizational goals.
  • uphold high ethical standards and consider the societal, environmental, and global impacts of their engineering solutions.
  • innovate and engage in entrepreneurial activities, leveraging their expertise in mechatronics and robotics to develop new products and technologies.

Student Outcomes

Upon graduation, students will have demonstrated an ability to:

  • apply knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems in mechatronics and robotics.
  • design systems, components, or processes to meet specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems.
  • apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments, and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.
  • conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments, and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes in mechatronics and robotics.
  • function effectively as a member and leader on technical teams, particularly in the context of mechatronics and robotics projects.
