The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is a 120-credit undergraduate degree designed to prepare students for professional careers in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure systems. The program integrates foundational civil engineering principles with applied learning in structural analysis, geotechnical design, transportation systems, environmental engineering, and construction management. Graduates will be equipped to address complex engineering challenges involving buildings, bridges, transportation networks, water resources, and sustainable urban development.
Program Educational Objectives
Graduates of the Civil Engineering program will:
- Be prepared for entry-level engineering positions in areas such as structural, geotechnical, transportation, environmental, and construction engineering.
- Apply civil-engineering principles to design, analyze, and manage sustainable infrastructure systems.
- Demonstrate professional ethics, effective communication, and teamwork in engineering practice.
- Pursue lifelong learning, professional licensure (EIT/PE), and advanced study in civil or related fields.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon graduation, students will be able to:
- Identify, formulate, and solve complex civil-engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
- Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs considering public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
- Communicate effectively with a range of audiences through reports, drawings, and presentations.
- Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering practice and make informed judgments that consider global and societal impacts.
- Function effectively on multidisciplinary teams that establish goals, plan tasks, and deliver engineering solutions.
- Develop and conduct appropriate experiments, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
- Acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies and modern tools such as CAD, GIS, and project management software.
