Layered protocol models. Ethernet, TCP/IP with mathematical throughput analysis. SMTP, POP, HTTP analyzed using Ethereal. Number theory, encryption and authentication. The RSA algorithm. Routing algorithms (RIP, OSPF). Optimal capacity assignment. Laboratory exercises performed using actual constructed networks (Windows/Linux) and virtual networks (in VMWare).
Prerequisite(s): CT 152, MA 128 or equivalent
